I'll preface this by saying I've seen no details on this idea, only a short newspaper story. I speak of the proposed Northern Islands Marine Monument. On the face of it, and again, not knowing all of the details.. this is a brilliant idea!we love saipan
Such a "marine monument", will not only serve as protected habitat for marine species, it will by its very nature, 1) Send a message that the CNMI is at the forefront of protecting its marine resources and habitat, 2) It would generate immense and long-term promotion of the CNMI, via media sources that don't and otherwise wouldn't feature us (environmental and educational programs and publications worldwide), 3) It will serve as an additional unique product that can be used on our end in marketing the CNMI, 4) It will serve to draw tourists, divers, marine biologists, scientists, etc., 5) It will provide incentive for future development of other Northern Islands. ..Among many other good reasons.
best blog on saipan
It was shameful that the Governor would not sit in on the presentation. As far as Arnold Palacios goes.. I don't think "progressive" will ever find itself onto one of his election signs.
saipan's best blog
Kudos to everyone involved in forwarding this great idea. That includes the PEW organization and Mr. Villagomez. Bravo! That, of course, does not negate that due apology.

Nice picture. Too bad the N Islands diving looks absolutely nothing like that.
I've seen the presentation...this is a great idea.
Should be a no-brainer.
I'd guess these government officials haven't seen any personal benifits to this plan yet, nor any bribes or pay-offs from anyone.
Suck it bitch. Were not corrupted leave our island haole bitch! Your should stay in Los Vegas!
The Marine Park is a wonderful idea. The direct and indirect benefits would be imeasurable.
The mindset here will never let such a plan get off the ground. Never. Sad but true.
Suck it bitch? :}lol.. Las Vegas nimrod.

That mentality, in hand with Glen's comments, might be exactly what the last anonymous commenter is referring to.
Lil stay in haoleville and leave our island for us indigenius to run it. Your an outsider telling us how to run our problem? Go stay in USA and let our Chamorro brother and sister run our island for the bettements of our indigenius! Biba Taotao tano!
like it has been run so far, right? this is the USA by the way. to freely depart and return from our homeland, you need what? a US Passport. so whose house it it? everyone with a US passport.
"let our Chamorro brother and sister run our island for the bettements of our indigenius!"
Run it where??? Into the ground some more???
(bettements? indigenius?)
bogus picture that once again advances the ignorance that and callous nature that is behind this park establishment.
You seem to jump onto bandwagons like most ignorant mainlanders. Do everyone a favor and jump off Suicide Cliff
i think she's using the fictional national geographic cover in symbolic fashion, as an example of the coverage we might recieve in the future should we in fact have such a marine sanctuary.
open up your mind, rather than continue running it off of that single actively racist cell.
the park is a great idea, and angelo, the pew group and all local residents who actively support the idea of this should be congratulated. it definitely is brilliant.
it is definitely racist to assume that Micronesians are the same as mainlanders. we live off the sea, we eat out of it. It is our home. done take it away for pretty pictures.
alot of mainlanders "live off of the sea". there aren't a whole lot of people here that still "live off of the sea" by the way, and I don't know any who "live off of the seas" off of the three northernmost islands. there won't be anything left "in the sea" if you don't institute some longterm plans.
i'm curious as to your suggestions for the sustainability of marine resources? we haven't seen very many from any of our politicos to date.
i'm all in. "brilliant plan" is a good description. and don't forget all of the "micronesians" who support and are right now pushing this plan.
"living off of the sea" doesn't mean wiping it out to feed your face. management is key to any livelihood based on the sea.
The idea or concept is worth discussing. We all need to listen carefully to what PEW is trying to sell us and then ASK QUESTIONS!!! Don't let any of your questions, no matter how insignificant you may think them, go unasked. Based on the contents of the PEW letter to the Governor and a basic internet search on PEW and the NWHI Monument, it is my opinion the Marianas Trench Monument idea is not a good idea for the CNMI. Especially when you consider how the PEW Foundation took the North-Western Hawaiian Islands away from the Hawaiians. I will try to keep an open mind and look forward in hearing the details of their plan.
great idea liar puta! marine wonderland? what a dumb lying cover cave bitch. ever hear of palau? so what, your gonna have a spot out there? and you expect the fucking whales and dolphins to be more at the trench then palau? do your research cave bitch. im a naui certified scuba instructor so dont talk about shit you dont know anything about. i wentn to bestseller and there is no such cover like this you lying bitch. why you like to make up lies? you should be ashame of yourself and be sewed for attackign people. you stop attacking people like bruce bateman he is a good guy and a good business and we like to eat there. fuck you liar.
good idea. lets put a mcdonalds out there too. over one billion fish fillet sandwich served mother fucker.
so you've finally visited a book store? aren't books neat? did you open one? cool, huh?
Micronesia's "Grand Canyon"? Sounds like a no-brainer. Won't cost anything, and will only do good. What has the NMI got to lose?
Gimma that chicken wang!
HAHAHA! Someone actually thought the mockup National Geographic cover was from a real magazine! LMSAO!
It may sound like a no brainer, but you have to realize that we are dealing with leaders with NO BRAINS!
Here is how our corrupt leaders will analyze it (stressing ANAL on analyze):
Top 12 Questions that will be asked by our CNMI Leaders:
1. Can we get free sashimi?
2. Can I shoot fruit bat over there?
3. How much kickback can I receive?
4. Can you hire my nephew?
5. Can you hire my daughter?
6. Did I already ask for kickback?
7. If it is a sanctuary, can I still fish over there?
8. Can I shoot a whale with my illegal handgun over there?
9. Can you hire my family's company to do a study on it?
10. Can you hire my brother?
11. Can we use drag net there?
12. Did you support my campaign?
P.S. Governor Fitial cannot sit in on any presentation because he is busy making BETTER TIMES for the CNMI! They will bring BETTER TIMES!!!
So this cover of National Geographic is not real??? Lania, this is a boo shet!
Brilliant idea, but sadly, not brilliant leaders to back this idea up.
Pozollan would have brought the CNMI hundreds of millions of dollars. Who fucked it up? Our government.
Why do we have bad power? Government.
Why did investors pull out of the CNMI? Government.
Why is CHC understaffed? Government.
Our GOVERNMENT is FUCKED UP and there isn't a damn thing we can do except leave this Godforsaken motherfucking corrupt island.

If anyone is interested to buy it, please put your email address down and I will contact you. And no, I won't take a case of spam or bud in trade.
There is nothing "shameful" about the Governor trying to get complete information before endorsing a proposal, including learning what economic opportunities would be sacrificed by the plan. (The proposal certainly claims some good economic benefits, though!)
Nothing says he has to personally sit in on a presentation when his department heads and Lt. Governor are available to do so.
If we would all be a bit less judgmental, you might find that things would work out better. Castigating those who do not immediately jump at one's beck and call is not the way to build coalitions.
Cinta Kaipat has the right attitude, and remains close to the Governor, too.
P.S. The pozzolan (pronounced POTS-suh-luhn) mining has been delayed by JG Sablan Rock Quarry and their counsel Mike Dotts. The lawsuit is currently before the Supreme Court.
I'LL by the taotaotano.com domain. email me at gimmeaf#$%^break@youmustbekidding.com
Ms D suck my big chili. R u the famous diane seymore? Stop lying fan. The governor dont support this idea because his stupid and corruption. Like you!
Nice blog. I must say I came across this blog by accident. Where is Saipan and what is the average length of the male penises there? I need to be ravaged!
Bang my anus repeatedly please!
Cave slut I'm from Guam. And I'm so herny for u! Lick my blue balls please!
For you or those of you who madde the above blog comments - Jeez. Grow up. Go to another blog and psew your filth. Send your pron blog stuff to Ron Hodges - he will answer you.
Now for the real issue. The Governor Does support this and he has been quietly having his staff and his peeps work on it.
So there you go - you naysers and C.A.V.E. people. C.A.V.E. - C.itizens A.gainst V.irtually E.verything.
Villagomez isn
't the only one that has worked on this - in fact, he is simply a liaison.
The Government has supported this as much as possible - as much as ensuring that CNMI's future is protected.

By the way - want to know what will happen if the US federalizes the CNMI's immigration - read on:

cut and past this link. This is happening right now as I am visiting Massachusettes.
Think this won't happen to you - think again.
Wow.. good morning!? Spring break I guess.. all the high school kids have free time on their hands.
Hey Ms. D! I agree with you on the Governor should not just jump to support something without all the information. Sitting in on a presentation isn't supporting the plan however. It does show respectful interest in a very unique idea, and would be of such magnitude, that you would think one would at least respectfully listen.
How many projects have gone by the wayside while we wait for unlikely windfalls? Too many. What's been done to develop any of the Northern Islands? Nothing. What's been done to highlight the NMI on a world-wide scale? Nothing. What are the prospects of anything happening on the three northernmost islands of the NMI in the next 20 years? Next to nothing.
I think there aren't too many reasons for not supporting such a marine monument plan.
Wow, I just read all of the comments. Hard to believe there are that many racist stupid asses out there? Really? Did you have parents. If you did, they didn't do a very good job. In fact, you might be able to speak to "armchair lawyer" about pursuing a lawsuit against them for the damage and trauma associated with child neglect. I say child neglect, only because I pray it wasn't physical abuse (i.e.- blows to the head) that caused such stupidity.
You have my sympathies and support.
I can't wait to see a knife in your smelly cave cunt, bitch! The tao tao tanos are coming for you.
Taotao tano rules! Haoles get off our islands! Your not welcomed here! Now your telling us where we can and can't fish? Fuck you! I'm a fisherman and boat captain and I fish in that area you think your gonna hurt my business it is already hard to fishing! I am asking taotao tano to supported the fishermen to ensure our rights to fishing in open water! Thank you! Haoles stop interfere in our matters for we are a peaceful sovereen national! We are not a racists until the haoles act to be bosses of us indigenius! Greg Cruz will deal with this!
I am also asking for the indigenius to sew this lil hammerhead and contact attorey general! Your illegal maybe no?
Wow. Anony is mad.
By the way, CNMI is par tof hte US. It is no longer 'your' but our (American) territory.
Us American's have a vested interested in making sure that CNMI is a healthy, beautiful and fantastic American territory.
We will not get off the island but instead lets make it a better place to live with some Commonsense Government and a better economy.
May God Bless CNMI and everyone else.

Hahaha. This is a funny blog. Lil what do you think about our Governor Fitial running for reelection. You think he deserves a second term?
I support Governor Fitial and his second run for office.
Lol! You dumb brown monkey. You support Fitial because he gave you a job, plain and simple. You deserve misery and corruption if you vote for this evil racist governor.
Lil hammerhead for puta of the year! You evil cunt. Fuck you. Taotao tano rules!
The biggest problem with the CNMI is that there are way too many Chamorros. Let whites and Filipinos run this place and we will turn it around.
http://mycnmi.blogspot.com/2008/03/give-pew-chance.html cinta has a great post about her position on the issue. and aside from this blog, the other two blogs writing about the proposal are chamorro. so where did the haole conspiracy originate? this is too sad to be funny.
the owner of this blog isn't even Haolie which is even funnier
the racists are so racist, they don't seem to be able to catch on to that. i realized this person wasn't a "haole" some months ago. maybe pretending to be, or rather trying to sound a bit like one, but not.
Jeez Lill,
Sorry about all the c--p you have to read and deal with.
I guess it is part of the blog's success.
Hopefully, the racists, the sexual frustrated and the mean people (who suck) will go away onto something else. That way, those regulars can get back to the constructive outlet that this blog presents.

You actually travel to these remote islands to fish? They are over 300 miles away, that is half way to the Philippines. You must not be making any money with the price of diesel nowadays. There are much better places to fish than all the way to these northern most three islands. Have you tried the banks on the way up to them?
If you are not using a small boat, you must be on the long-liner which is not locally owned.
As for being a sovereign nation, no the CNMI is not. They gave up sovereignty to the federal government when the Covenant was accepted by a majority of the voters here in the CNMI. If you don't like being under U.S. sovereignty move to another country.
I challenge Greg Cruz to a spelling bee!
lol! Bottom line, it is a great idea.
lol! its a bad idea
the only deal greg cruz seems to have been able to make so far, is making his cousin his wife.
Did you hear Cruz wants interracial marriages not to be able to recieve homestesd lots?
Thanks for all the lively commentary.. with the exception of all the dumbass racist remarks.
The Marine Monument is a great idea.. to not seriously consider it, is to be as ass-backwards as is humanly possible.
The Pew Trust fund should purchase the Northern Islands over a 10 year period. That will ensure that it becomes a marine monument and the CNMI will get $$$.
They can allow some fishing but control it.
See, Look at me. What a great idea this is.
Sai=Sai
PS - Lill, what about the Racist Pastor that Obama listened to in Church?
Where is the Blog on that? Is that too taboo for posting and discussion?

The Pew Trust should purchase the Northern Islands to facilitate a Marine Sanctuary that will BE A BENEFIT TO US! That will benefit our environment, our tourism, our promotions, our good deed as earths residents?
No.. this is our responsibility
No.. Obama's former pastor isn't taboo. It's just not "newsworthy" to me. It is discussed, and I participate in those conversations on Glen's site. It is a nonissue for me. If it was an issue, all the conservative moral majority racist and homophobe preachers, who have supported and been aligned with Republican presidents for the last fourty years, would also be the subject of a blog.
Who your pastor is.. is a total nonissue. I've had priests I've totally disagreed with, and I've still gone back to the church. I've gone to churches here where priests were molesters for jeep's sake.. I judge the man, not his pastor.
you are a double-standard lip drooling, neandrathalic moron.
double standard?
lip drooling?
Comeon.. you can come up with something better than that. ;}
Lil - An Einstein analogy or quote is a little brutal to level on the morons in power here as to even expect progressive thinking in one instance would be a longshot.
:}
Lill,
One cannot discern and remove themselves from their friends and associates. It is that type of logic that lets us think that anything goes with anyone.
Certain people in our society have chosen to place themselves at higher scrutiny levels - Presidential candidates, Priests, etc. are some of them. What they do does matter and it is subject to comment.
To stick our heads in the sand and say it doesn't mean ---- to me is irresponsible. And even though I have seen some wording in this blog from you that is rather immature for someone your age, I don't think you’re irresponsible.
Perhaps there is another motive.
To judge anyone by their pastor, by a university teacher, by their barber, or by their barrista, when they themselves have never espoused the beliefs of any of those individuals in their lives.. is silly.
How is "wording" "immature", or "irresponsible".. by the way?
your a hypocrite.
In what way? Please explain. Do you know the definition of hypocrite?
Silly is not the proper word to describe the gist of what you’re trying to convey. Regardless of that - let me address your point.
#1. I am not the same Anon that said Hypocrite.
#2. Assessing someone’s character by who they associate with is a valid and proper reflection of who they are. Although not a definitive way to judge someone (and yes, I am judging and yes let me be judged too) it is a proper characterization of who they are, what they believe and represent. How so - well, when you do it for 20 years - yeah it is who you are.
Your examples of a barber, university teacher, etc. are nonsense and irrelevant examples unless of course you protest (for 20 years) with that University Professor, drink beer (for 20 years) with the Barber or sit in the pews (for 20 years) of the Pastor.
So if you are (universal you not personal you) a dog that runs around for 20 years with other dogs that have fleas, you will get fleas.
By “wording”, I mean, you stoop down to other bloggers level.
By “immature”, I mean, your personal and vindictive attack on those who do not share your political views.
By “irresponsible”, well that one I said you were not of that character.
Alot of folks, bloggers and otherwise, don't agree with my political views.. Glen558 and Ed for example.. we are very civil.
I'll further dash your hypothesis by highlighting the fact that my liberal political views run very similar to Motecs and Sbloggers.. and we have had a number of "uncivil" exchanges.
